Texas. Filibuster for choice. Texas. Executing their 500th Person..in THE SAME DAY!

So, because I suffered from what seemed to be a delayed hangover yesterday...I am sure it is just the air pressure that gave me the wicked headache...that resulted in the advil/gravol taking...which turned into a 3 hour "nap" yesterday...because of ALL of that I am up very early this morning.
Something I enjoy when I am up this early is the unfiltered events of my friends and colleagues in the UK.
Everyone has an opinion on Wimbleton right now...and I know Tober will be upset that it is not his that I am featuring...but this is my fave tweet about that this morn:

would b so much better if the line judges shouted "SHITE" instead of out"
rt by Barry Church-Wood in Edinburgh

Everyone is gearing up for the fringe in Edinburgh...doing their previews in London, getting coverage...trying to get the word out...I am so happy to be staying home this year but it is easy to get caught up in the maelstrom that is the #edfringe.

And then I saw an article in the UK's Guardian...retweeted by many and featured on Teresa Pavlinek's Facebook page...I had begun to see some tweets and links about it last night...but when I was looking for coverage of this event on TV...there was none...as my one twitter friends said...and I am paraphrasing here...there is a major historical event happening in Texas and CNN is doing a report on muffins.

A brave lady, Texas State Senator Wendy Davis was about 10 hours into an 11 hour filibuster to stop an archaic abortion bill from being passed. It would close 37 or the states 42 abortion clinics...and:

"When representative Senfronia Thompson called for an exemption for women who were victims of rape and incest, representative Jody Laubenberg
(who was the author of the bill) explained why she felt it was unnecessary.
"In the emergency room they have what's called rape kits where a woman can get cleaned out," she said, comparing the procedure to an abortion.
Her apparent confusion about "rape kits" – a phrase generally used to describe the equipment used by medical personnel during forensic examinations to gather physical evidence following allegations of rape or sexual assault – sparked widespread ridicule on social media sites. Laubenberg then simply rejected all proposed changes to her bill without speaking until the end of the debate."

It was with that kind of intelligence that the Texas anti-abortion bill was written, a knowledge reminiscent of that asshole (I don't even care enough about him to google his effing name) who claimed that the womb attacked a rapist's sperm...so there could be no baby conceived from a rape...lord have mercy.

I was so glad to wake this morning and see that it had not passed...but it was a melee of epic proportions...Wendy Davis was called out by the Republicans for breaking some old rules of the filibuster...another democratic Senator, Senator Van de Putte, arriving from her father's funeral, said she had missed the session and wished for the points of order to be read back to her...and she was continually ignored...and made this wonderfully telling statment:

"What doea a female member of the senate have to do to be heard over her male colleagues?"

Indeed.

...then the people of Texas actually showed up, sat themselves in the gallery and made such a ruckus that the vote could not get passed.

Here are the people in the gallery...some were led away in handcuffs.

The people spoke...and screamed...imagine.

And the BILL DID NOT GET PASSED!!!

Still on CNN...muffins.

Oh, you know what CNN DID cover yesterday?
How Texas is going to execute it's 500th person since they RESUMED carrying out the death penalty in 1982. The 52-year-old convicted killer, Kimberly McCarthy also would be the first woman executed in the U.S. since 2010.

Resumed.

Resumed the death penalty.

Yet, there they are...in the Senate...passing bills...fighting for life, they say...and there they are, in the VERY SAME STATE...not far away...out at the prisons...snuffing them out.

It is confusing.

It is confusing when self proclaimed godly people play god and claim to know his or her mind?

Isn't that the ultimate in hubris?

Lord.
Just sayin'

WAY TO GO WENDY DAVIS and the other people of Texas!!

Here is the Guardian Article:

Here is a Fox News (terrifying I know...but you gotta cover both sides, right?)  article on the execution:
