Green Acres, WORLD STAGE and R-E-B-E-C-C-A.

This week I have made my way into the big city.
Just so we are clear...sometimes I imagine that I am the Gabor sister (I can never remember which one) in Green Acres...sitting in the country...covered in diamonds and furs...and then I wake up and I am in my sweats on a residential street...and the truth sets in. (Also, if you are too young to know what I mean about Green Acres...Google the shit out of it.)

Fur and a Pig...who could ask for anything more?
I came into TO for two reasons...well, three...one: to stay with my honey who is starting rehearsal for "Fiddler on the Roof" at Stage West...George is playing 'Tevye'...and I cannot wait to see him in the show...which begins previews on February 14th. He understudied Brent Carver at the Stratford Festival in the legendary Susan Schulman production of Fiddler back in 2001. I went to see his understudy run back then...and he was amazing. Again, I can't wait to see him...get your tickets now...the wonderful Gabi Epstein is in it...and the fabulous Erig Craig...just to name a few people. GO!

Get your tickets here, people!

Second: Tina Rasmussen, the Artistic Director of World Stage invited a group of people she named "Social Media Influencers" to her home...her home! (And who doesn't like to be mentioned as an influencer of anything...except for maybe porn...but I may stand corrected. :) ) She intro'd the 2013 season to us...in person...while we tweeted. It is a FABULOUS idea. First of all, I was the oldest person there...and I was glad I have invested in an IPHONE...no need to be mocked by this techno savvy group of young people. Tina is someone I have long admired for her passion in her work, the theatre and the theatre community in TO. Getting the chance to hear her speak about her season and seeing excerpts from the pieces projected on her condo living room wall was a rare treat. The season looks spectacular...I am especially interested in "She She Pop and Their Fathers: Testament" from Germany and "Still Standing You" from Belgium and Portugal. To be absolutely honest, the whole season looks wonderful. Sidebar: Tina also made pulled pork and veggie chili....and there was a keg of beer. The hashtag was #theatrekegger ...and we trended, bitches. I have never felt so hip and/or geekie at the same time...and I loved it. I did.
WAY TO GO, TINA! Way to GO, WORLD STAGE!

Here is a link to their season!!!

And lastly, but not least...ly....I came in to see my dear friend Sara Farb do a production workshop of a show she has been working on for many years. About 5 years ago, at the Paprika Festival, Sara did a short showing of "R-E-B-E-C-C-A". It was something, really. Based on the life of her sister, Sara has gone inside and endeavored to see it is like in the body and mind of a young woman, who is autistic and on her way to sexual maturity. Now, five years later, after Sara has finished her University degree, rewritten the show a number of times, found a sound scape and a set and is working with dramaturg and director Richard Greenblatt, "R-E-B-E-C-C-A" the show is also meeting its maturity. FANCY WORDS, I know...but true true true.
There are two more nights of this production workshop...including tonight. I urge you to GO! This will be in a season someday soon...go and see this awesome work in progress.

So many great things in Toronto.
I love me my town...though I live in Green Acres...I am here in my heart...to clarify, there is no room in my heart for that BOOB Rob Ford.
HAVE A GOOD DAY ALL!!

Mean Girls Musical, 50 Shades of Treadmill, ROB FORD and Eight is Enough.

It is Tuesday.
I woke up in a hotel room in Mississauga.
Things are funny in this ole world.
In the last couple of day these are things that struck me as...well, if not funny...they just plain struck me...some of these are rejoked from Twitter...because I have heard that your Twitter feed relevance is 20 minutes...what the fuck? Time moves too fucking fast to NOT rejoke...or at least make a play at rejoking...and hoping for a pity laugh...

1. I was in the gym on the effing treadmill...I turned my head and watched a girl 3 treadmills from me walking and reading '50 Shades of Grey'. Jesus Wept.

2. The same gym visit there was a girl who I assumed was a stripper...due to spray tan, working out in booty shorts and wearing sneakers with a bit of a wedge...and she turned to me in the change room...after a couple of minutes of not being able to figure out HOW to get out of her workout boob top...and she turned to me and said, "Uh, I have no boobs now...lord...I have lost so much weight...I have no boobs..." as she clutched her B cups which where encased in a black lacy bra...FOR WORKING OUT. I could think of absolutely NOTHING to say. Which you know, for me...is something.

3.  Don't those people on the Golden Globes and SAG awards who take themselves so seriously know that they are 10 years from being treated with all of the reverence of the cast of "Three's Company" or "Eight is Enough" or "St Elsewhere"? We are are all two jobs from wearing a Banana Suit and handing our flyers, people...save your money and enjoy the success NOW...because why? Life is funny. (This last post may be a bit dark but I just watched E True Hollywood Story and I am feeling a bit melancholy. Poor cast of "Different Strokes".)

4. Rob Ford. What. The. Fuck.

5. I am so effing excited about Kathleen Wynne becoming the Ontario Liberal Party leader...woman! Out Lesbian! With all this I need to learn her politics!! And here is my fave pic of the last two days...Rob Ford and she were so happy to meet at a dinner a couple of nights ago...he was just saying how excited he was to meet her....

 6. They are making a 'Mean Girls' musical. Huh. I got all excited and wondered if I could even be considered for my part of Joan the Secretary...

Yes, me with brown hair...I dyed it then...

...but then I realized that it is a stage musical...not a movie musical and if I even had the good luck to be considered I would have to do the part 8 shows a week. 8 shows, people. "Mean Girls"....the gift that has kept on giving...no one in Edinburgh gave a toss about most of my credits but would freak about "Mean Girls"...so we slogged it like a 2 dollar whore. In honour of the "Mean Girls" musical I post a link to a funny bit I saw on Tumblr this morn...Les Mean Girls...

ADDED: The wonderful Grant Ramsay also passed on this article today!

7. I am never giving up on getting this or one of my tunes on 'Grey's Anatomy'...sometimes you have to play the long game people...and I have said in the past, dominating the world one person at a time is EXHAUSTING and you have to be patient...so, here is my youtube vid of the cover on my CD of "Stop in the Name of Love....give it a listen on the rainy Tuesday (in Toronto...who knows what the weather is like where you are?) and if you like pass it on! Who knows what will happen!!?!???

With THAT I wish you good DAY!

What if? VIRAL, PEOPLE. And not the gross kind.

So, I was sitting here this aft wanting to promote my dear friend Douglas Price,  because he just did the loveliest chart of one of my favourite songs ever...but you can't put MP3's on social media...at least I have not figured it out yet...and THEN I thought (Please take into account here that I have worked out twice today and had 2 Diet Cokes) well, what if I made a video for Youtube...of that song...SMARTS!
About seven years ago (Don't worry...this won't go on too long) I heard this song and was inspired...inspired to sing it in a whole different way. When I did my first (and, as of yet, only) album it was one of the first songs I recorded. I have sung it hundreds of times since all over the world...how lovely is that...and one of my fave times was a night I did it a capella in the Berkeley rehearsal space at Canadian Stage...another was on the stage of the Taj Hotel in Cape Town the last night of my 2012 tour.
I made the album, Party Girl, a while ago...I sell it at concerts and cabarets. It is all gently and lovingly reused covers...most I have done for years...some I have rearranged since the recording..and a couple songs I have never sung again...but I love the recording.
Today, after I did the video of this song...I thought...all I have ever wanted was for something to go viral...because I am an independent artist and have focused solely on my live show I have never promoted this album...what if...what if...this could go viral?
Remember, this is 2013, the Year of Possibilities !
Okay!
Follow along a crazy, Canadian, caffeinated road with me...
What if people listen...and pass it on...and it goes viral...and someone from "So You Think You Can Dance" hears it and puts it on their show? I would crap my pants.... (Dream bigger, Matthews)
OR what if someone like Steven Soderberg or...um...Julia Roberts...or, wait a minute...that Judd Apatow (who is most awesome)   hears it and thinks...I am gonna use that in one of my movies. WAIT!!! I AM GONNA USE HER... gently and lovingly...and in a movie...and not in a dirty way...unless the pay is good and then we will all make sure it is tasteful....
2013...the Year of Possibilities...
And then FINALLY Jian Ghomeshi gets my album...listens...digs it...finds it kitchy...or something and FINALLY puts me on his radio show....FINALLY.... Huh...
2013...the Year of Possibilities.
Life is too short to not try shit like this. TOO SHORT.
Pass it on!
Wouldn't THAT BE AMAZING!!
Let us see what happens....

The Album "Sharron Matthews Party Girl " is Available on ITUNES.
Also, it would be silly to not mention that I have my first solo show since July next Friday January 25th at The Flying Beaver Pubaret.

P.S. It is NOW my new goal...and because I am a woman I can change my mind...to have this song play on Grey's Anatomy...laugh if you will...but dreams do come true....bitches.
